In 2007, there was a Chinese toy toxic paint scare that got a lot of media attention in Australia.
Thousands of toys – plastic Barneys and Big Birds – were recalled from shops across the land amid fears they could be covered in lead paint. Around a million toys were recalled worldwide by the manufacturer Mattel, a cost to the company of around $30 million US dollars.
