Why rainbow families need to see themselves in print too

“Who’s your real mum?” This was an actual question a child asked Bernadette Green’s daughter.

Can you imagine if someone asked your child that question?

Bernadette understood that children need to see different families reflected in media – particularly in picture books – in order to accept the difference they see around them.

So she wrote a picture book based on that question, Who’s Your Real Mum? 

Bernadette talks about the ways her family has been treated differently, and the challenges that she and her partner overcame to become parents.
