How lockdown has impacted carers in Australia

Most parents facing lockdown and homeschooling start pacing rapidly, pulling out tufts of hair. Being forced to stay at home with small children without access to parks and other distractions can be challenging. So if it’s hard for those of us with able-bodied children, how are carers of children with special needs faring when they are cut off from the supports they need on a daily basis?

Elena Katrakis is the CEO of Carers NSW. She explains how the lockdown has impacted carers in Australia, how carers can try to access support (through The Carer Gateway) and how we might help those caring for others.
