Most primary schools celebrate the different cultures that make up Australia. Harmony Week is a particular time of the year when children are encouraged to celebrate the diversity in the country and their schools. But are we missing the point? New research from Monash University has revealed that students want to talk about racism, and that the approach most schools are taking is not addressing concerns about racism.

Hannah Yared is a psychologist and the lead researcher on the study of racism in schools. and Maxine Beneba Clarke is an author whose picture books offer a more inclusive education to children. In this interview they discuss the research, and their learnings in the area.
