The 6 excellent pieces of marriage advice Kristen Bell gave to a stranger

Kristen Bell

Someone wrote to Kristen Bell to snaffle some marriage advice for a bunch of buddies who were about to get married. Not only did Kristen comply, she shares some excellent tips that may just rival her husband – Dax Shepard’s – much lauded Dr Dax wisdom.

“You are an old married woman”

Initially mum-of-two Kristen was going to cheerily brush aside his query, but then she realised she actually did have a gem or two to impart.

“I received a letter from a nice man who asked if I could write a note to his friends who are getting married,” Kristen explained in her post.

“I wrote something congratulatory but then thought “Kristen! Wait! You are an old married woman, shouldn’t you have some wisdom to share?!” After I was finished I realized what I wrote is pretty much the A-Z of how @daxshepard and I keep our relationship healthy. Its worked for us so far, So here ya go.”

The six commandments

What followed was a really excellent and commonsense list focusing on Kristen’s six commandments for a better marriage, commandments she says Dax totally supports. They went a little something like this:

  1. Vulnerability always begets connection and intimacy. Stay vulnerable with each other.
  2. In 10 years, when the dopamine has wanted, remember: Life is a crazy ride. It’s a privilege to go through it with a partner.
  3. Take necessary separateness. It will make your marriage better.
  4. Loving someone despite their faults, failings or character defects is the most powerful, loving thing you can do.
  5. Rejoice in what makes the other person happy, and allow them their individual interests.
  6. Know that everyone is doing the best they can with what they’ve got. So get a bigger emotional toolbox to fix your problems.

More please?

We told you they were good!

We’re kind of expecting (i.e. desperately hoping) a brand new romance-related reality show and book are on the way. They could feature this funny and relatable couple … renovating people’s relationships!

It’d be sort of like The Block, only instead of new kitchens and butler’s pantries, couples would get a much-needed freshen-up in the emotional intelligence and “playing with others” departments. (There would probably be the same amount of crying and tantrums as the actual Block, though, truth be told.)

Dax has actually just released a brand new podcast called Armchair Expert, which we consider a step in the right direction.

We live in hope that someone makes our fantasy Bell-Shepard love first-aid show happen – and leave you with Dr Dax … #YoureWelcome
