“Abandoned” MAFS Zoe Hendrix reveals the truth of her split with Alex
In a heartbreaking Instagram post overnight, Married at First Sight favourite Zoe Hendrix opened up about why she and her daughter’s father split.
Dark days
Zoe and Alex met on the popular dating show and went on to have a beautiful baby girl named Harper-Rose. Sadly, the couple broke up earlier this year, but have maintained a dignified silence when it came to the reasons why things didn’t work out.
But prompted by a question from another mum in crisis, Zoe decided to reveal a little more about what had gone on and the struggles she’s facing parenting 19-month-old Harper.
Anyone who has experienced a break-up will know that it’s a confusing path to navigate. Couple heartbreak with a public profile and that confusion doubles-down. It’s hard to know the best way to work through these tricky feelings at the best of times, but Zoe’s doing it with an audience and it’s clear she’s learning on her feet.
“I didn’t choose this path”
Last night’s post to Instagram sought to make it clear that while she didn’t choose to separate from her daughter’s father, she was trying hard to come to terms with her circumstances and stay positive for her own sake and her baby’s.
“After the separation, a lot of women have contacted me privately asking ‘how do you know when it’s time leave your husband?’ The power of that question has weighed on me and I have thought long and hard for an adequate answer that these women deserve,” Zoe wrote, noting that other women reading might be facing a similar experience.
“The unfortunate truth is, I didn’t choose this path. I never bought a ticket. I never thought that the man I loved so much would one day walk away. But he did.”
“I never thought I would be alone taking care of our child six days a week in a suburb that no longer feels like home. But I do. I never thought I would find myself single in a queen size bed. But I do.”

While she was unsure about how to make the decision to leave a relationship, what she did know is that there will always be suffering in life, and how we deal with it defines us.
“So I can’t tell them about how I knew, or the courage it took to walk away. But I can talk about the strength it takes to accept the unexpected path that life unwilling drags you down. I can tell them to accept that we all will face pain and adversity of one type or another. That people will hurt us, people will abandon us, and we must also acknowledge that we will hurt others. Whether we know or intend to or not.
That often life will seem unfair and unjust (and sometimes plainly fucking cruel) but we must learn to weather the storm.”
Lean into the struggle
The mum-of-one reminded followers – and possibly herself – that what seems like a breakdown could be a breakthrough.
“We must learn to hold on to hope,” Zoe wrote. “Even on days we just wish to end the pain. We must learn to embrace our struggles and know that tremendous growth can come from our breakdown. In fact, if we listen and take on the lessons, it can be a breakthrough.”
“I can only tell these woman, that there is no courage where there is no fear. And that whatever choice you make, after the storm has subsided, you will find joy again. Your life might just be different to how you dreamt it to be. Have hope knowing that it’s not the end of the world if someone doesn’t love you anymore – it’s only the end of the world if you don’t love you anymore.”
We send all our love to Zoe and her wee girl during this incredibly tough time – and thank her for sharing because it WILL help someone else push through.
