10 kid-questions that are so curly they’re impossible to answer
“Parents of Reddit, what ‘why?’ has your toddler thrown you that even Google couldn’t answer?” came the call-out on the popular social platform. Reddit parents responded in their thousands, with questions from small children as diverse as “did dinosaurs know humans could be fat?” to “What does spider poop look like?”
Those are the tip of the iceberg. Here’s a bunch of other kid curly q’s.
1. Do caterpillars burp?
Reddit user hahahahthunk reveals their child asked “Do caterpillars burp?” admitting “Google had no idea.”
But another Redditor came to the rescue. Pterafractyl wrote. “I have a friend that has a PhD in the study of caterpillars,” they wrote, offering to ask them. They later came back with a triumphant “got the answer!” Apparently said PhD student advised:
“I talked with some of my labmates, and we agreed that they don’t! Caterpillars get oxygen through tubes in their sides, instead of anything through their mouth, so they don’t have muscles to pull air into their mouths. If they do get some air caught between pieces of food, we’re pretty confident that the air will just diffuse out of their gut into their blood.”
