There’s no way your kids can contemplate an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday without a lovely basket in their hands.

Here’s an Easter basket craft you can make at home that’s both easy to make AND provides a perfect egg storage solution after the hunt is over!

What you’ll need

  • 1 paper plate
  • 2 coloured paints
  • 1 egg carton
  • glue
  • stapler
  • paintbrush
  • 30 x 3 cm white card
  • 60 cm x 1 cm ribbon
  • scissors
  • craft knife

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open out the egg carton and using scissors, cut off the lid and the closing flap and discard.
  2. Using the craft knife, carefully cut the base into two equal halves (or leave it whole if you have that many eggs for your kiddo to collect!).
  3. Take one of the halves and cut the last two egg ‘cups’ off the end of the base in a straight line. Set aside for a moment.
  4. Take the other half and using the craft knife, cut and remove the remaining half cone on the end of the cut edge.
  5. Place two dots of glue in the last two egg ‘cups’ and place the two that you have already set aside onto the glue and secure together to create a 6 egg carton basket.
  6. Squirt a small amount of each of the two colours of paint on the paper plate. Paint the outside of the egg carton. Allow to dry and then paint the inside of the carton with a contrasting colour.
  7. Cut the ribbon into two 30 cm lengths.
  8. Glue along the two long outer edges of the card and secure the ribbon.
  9. Staple the ribboned card to each side of the basket to create a handle.
