The Baby-Sitters Club, by Ann M. Martin
I know, I know, this beloved series is so dated now. Just one look at the cover takes you right back to 1986, but still, it holds a special place in the hearts of Gen-X mothers everywhere. There was something special about a group of girls hanging out in their bedroom, waiting for their landline phone to ring, and eating Twinkies. Whatever those were. Half the fun was trying to figure out if you and your friends were a bossy Kristy, an artsy Claudia, or a popular Stacey.
