Pregnant Amy Schumer vomits through second trimester due to severe hyperemesis
US comedian Amy Schumer is expecting her first child with husband Chris Fischer, but her pregnancy is proving super challenging thanks to Hyperemesis gravidarum.
“All I can say is nope!”
You might know a little about Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) because Duchess Kate suffered from the condition during all of her pregnancies.
Amy’s dealing with the same horrible illness and despite being into her second trimester, she’s continuing to vomit her way through each day and ended up in hospital in mid-November as a result.
“I am in the hospital,” she posted on November 16. “I’m fine. Baby’s fine but everyone who says the 2nd trimester is better is not telling the full story.”
“I’ve been even more ill this trimester. I have hyperemesis and it blows. Very lucky to be pregnant, but this is some bullshit!”
Debilitating and discouraging
More recent updates to Amy’s Instagram show her trying to juggle work and growing a baby, all while dealing with these severe bouts of vomiting.
While this condition is sometimes referred to as ‘severe morning sickness’, it’s really so much more than that, with some sufferers avoiding ever falling pregnant again or even ending their pregnancies due to being so ill.
HG can result in dehydration, weight loss and low birth weight babies. While it often disappears around the 14-week mark, some women suffer from the condition all the way through their pregnancies.

“Am I glowing?”
Over the weekend Amy shared a photo of herself on an IV drip, presumably taking in fluids and perhaps some anti-nausea medication, to counteract the effects of HG.
“Am I glowing?” she joked, but it’s plain to see that she feels like death warmed up.
Other updates show her en route to perform and after a show, throwing up like there’s no tomorrow.
Honestly, it’s horrendous and we imagine she’s feeling pretty ripped-off (as well as very sick.)
“Deep in my second trimester and all I can say is nope!” she posted on Instagram earlier this month alongside a video of herself vomiting. “Yesterday I did a show 90 minutes later … #soblessed #godsmiracle #lepainbathroom”
Feeling human
A week earlier Amy had shared a pregnancy update, writing “Turn sound off if you have a weak stomach. This was my ride to my show at Tarrytown Music Hall tonight and a picture from the end of my set.”
Sharing the reality of HG and telling fans that she was having to reschedule some gigs, Amy admitted she looked forward to feeling “human again”
“I love doing stand-up more than anything and I hate cancelling shows,” a depleted Amy explained. “I have to postpone some until I feel human again. But I will make up these dates and we will have a great time. I’m so proud of my stand up right now and can’t wait to share it. Thanks to the amazing crowd tonight for being so warm and such great laughers and for being cool with my sweatpants and slippers on stage.”
We hope Amy’s HG passes sooner rather than later and wish her a SPEEDY pregnancy because she’s right. This is some bullsh*t.
