Homemade baby food: carrot, potato, peas and corn puree recipe
Your baby has mastered the rice cereal basics and you’re ready to launch into the kitchen to whip up some of your own delectable delights fit for devouring. Let’s start with easy, scrumptious vegetables!
Vegetables are almost always well received by babies. Start out with these basic vegetables and as their confidence grows, so too does the opportunity to add other vegetables like broccoli and pumpkin.
Ingredients
1 carrot, peeled and diced
1 small potato, peeled and diced
1 tbs peas, frozen or fresh
2 tbs sweet corn kernels, frozen or tinned
4 tbs water
1 tsp olive oil
Method
- In a small saucepan heat the oil over medium heat. Add the carrot and fry gently until soft, around eight minutes.
- Add the potato, peas, sweet corn and water to the saucepan. Stir to combine. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat, cover and simmer for around 20 minutes until all vegetables are soft. Stir intermittently to avoid vegetables sticking to the bottom.
- Puree the vegetable mixture by pushing them through a sieve, using a stick blender or potato masher.
- Mix in a little extra water if your baby prefers a thinner texture during these early experimental tasting days.
