Toddlers may be small, but they certainly fill our world with big love.

If you need a reminder about just how incredible it is to have a toddler, then read on! Here are 18 reasons toddlers are so special and sweet, even if they take us to the brink of insanity.

Toddlerdom is an age of wonder, of exploration and of emotional meltdowns. Quite frankly, it can be one of the most difficult stages for parents but also one of the very best. Because in between the tantrums over what’s for breakfast, the dirty nappies you find on the floor and the puddles of who-knows-what in the kitchen, you can’t help but smile and laugh at the heart-melting moments that come with parenting a toddler.

1. They are incredibly innocent

If I could bundle up the purity of a toddler and keep it forever, I would. This is one of the most beautiful qualities of any young child and one that fades far too quickly. Cherish it now.

2. They know just how awesome they are

Sooner or later they will discover that the world doesn’t revolve around them. But it’s so cute to let them think it does, for now at least.

3. They don’t give a hoot about making a fool of themselves

As long as they are having fun, that’s all that matters.

4. They are easy to please

Sometimes …

5. They bring hours of entertainment

No need to even have the television on when you have a toddler around. Simply pour a cup of coffee, sit back and prepare to laugh. Put two toddlers together and be prepared for even more hilarity.

6. They love to help

Sure, when they clean or attempt the chores, it ends up in a bigger mess, but, hey, you have to love their effort. Enjoy it while it lasts – the desire to do jobs is pretty much gone by school age.

7. Actually, they pretty much love everything

An old stuffed animal. A favourite t-shirt. A sponge. A rock they found outside. Toddlers don’t care if something is old, dirty or completely random – if they have an attachment to it, then they will adore it (and you’d better not throw it out).

8. They know when to let it go

They won’t let go of their random collections, but they’ll quickly let go of a grudge. Sure, the fact that you asked them to pick up their toys may seem like the end of the world one minute, but they are quickly able to forgive, forget and move on to more important things.

9. They are masters of persuasion

Even though they may not be able to properly communicate, toddlers always seem to be able to get what they want. They understand the battle strategy of attrition!

10. They laugh at all your corny jokes

And funny faces. And goofy dance moves. And weird bodily sounds. And pretty much any sentence which includes whatever they deem to be “rude words”.

11. They’re fine with wearing their shoes on the wrong feet

As long as they are allowed to put them on themselves, it’s all good.

12. They usually still wear what you tell them to

But even when they sneak into your wardrobe, they still somehow manage to make your high heels or work boots look good.

13. They just want to be with you, always

Having someone who constantly looks up to you, who needs you every single day and who depends on you for everything is a big responsibility. But isn’t it nice to feel needed?

14. They are still small enough to pick up

Defiant toddlers are still light enough to lift. As opposed to a defiant pre-schooler. Or worse still, a high school kid.

15. They give the best kisses

Sure, they are sloppy and they often miss your mouth, but it’s the thought that counts.

16. They love and show love willingly

They are not too embarrassed to give you a kiss in public or hold your hand at the shops.

17. They know that life is too short to stay clean

Which gives you a great excuse to be a little slack on the housework! What’s the point when you have a tornado in the form of a toddler following you everywhere you go?

18. When they finally sleep, it is the cutest thing in the world

Toddlers are go-go-go. But when they do stop, you could spend hours just watching them sleep and breathing in their angelic little faces.

Enjoy these precious days with your fierce, fabulous and funny little one, because, as all mums with older kids know, it will be over in the blink of an eye!
