Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are the most beloved royals in the world at the moment, approaching their engagements with a relaxed attitude and chatting cheerily with the public.

“I hope it’s a girl!”

The couple has been keen to make their trip truly count, shining a spotlight on mental health awareness, disability, indigenous Australians and diversity/gender equality to name but a few key issues.

And while gender equity appears to be very important to the pair – last week Meghan was especially keen to make girls aware of their opportunities and potential – when it comes to his own child, Harry has some very distinct leanings which he’s very vocal about.

He made them known as he whizzed through the crowds yesterday, meeting royal enthusiasts and giving everyone a wave as one particular well-wisher caught his attention.

In a video posted by Instagram account, Harry_Meghn_Up a woman calls out to Harry twice – because Harry didn’t quite hear the first time.”I hope it’s a girl!” then “I hope it’s a girl!” she yells.

Harry cheekily calls back, “So do I!” as he briskly continues on his walkabout – as if this admission was no big deal and media outlets across the world were not typing “Harry wants a baby girl!” into their content management systems.

It’s the second potential royal hint Harry’s given fans about the upcoming baby.

On Friday in Melbourne, he and Meghan met a woman with a baby called Harriet. Harry said: “That’s a great name!” – which promptly had pundits thinking it might be another clue.

“Our newest addition”

Last Tuesday at Admiralty House Harry spoke of the royal baby for the very first time.

“We genuinely couldn’t think of a better place to announce the, er, upcoming baby,” Harry said, looking at Meghan, adding “whether it’s a boy or a girl.”

Then Harry delighted crowds as he honoured Meghan at Saturday night’s Invictus Games opening ceremony.

“First of all, thank you for the welcome you have given Meghan and I over the last few days,” he said. “I have been so proud to be able to introduce my wife to you and we have been so happy to be able to celebrate the personal joy of our newest addition with you all.”

Several days earlier, as the pair enjoyed a tram ride to South Melbourne beach, Meghan admitted they were preparing to mull baby names over a little more carefully (AND that there appears to be an official Royal Baby Name Finder on staff!!)

“We’ve been given a long list of names from everyone,” she explained, “we’re going to sit down and have a look at them.”

Kensington Palace says the royal baby is due in the UK’s spring, with the latest theory suggesting that Meghan may give birth in the last days of March.
