7 celebrity mums who’ve shared their experience of miscarriage
Content warning: This post discusses miscarriage.
Miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death support service SANDS tell us “up to 1 in 4 confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage before 20 weeks, but many other women miscarry without having realised they are pregnant.”
Some very high-profile types have spoken out about enduring miscarriage, in the hopes that it might help others work through their own losses – and realise that this experience does not discriminate.
Carrie Bickmore
Soon to be mum-of-three Carrie Bickmore recently revealed she's endured two miscarriages.
“I know both times I miscarried, I was so relieved I hadn’t told many people I was pregnant," Carrie wrote in a recent piece.
"I was struggling to get my head around what had happened and was not in the mood to talk about it. I can’t imagine how I would have coped seeing the sad look in people’s faces … I needed time to adjust.”
She notes, "there is no formula or rulebook for grief" and hopes the stigma surrounding miscarriage fades and that women are more able to discuss their experience if they choose to.
