Gulp! Sydney mum pregnant with twins only 6 weeks after daughter’s birth

Eliza Curby

Sydney mama Eliza Curby and her partner Ben have achieved the incredible, welcoming three babies in 2016 – eleven and a bit months apart! For those playing at home, that’s three under one. Gasp.

Triple the fun

The family appear to be taking these triple blessings in their stride, despite their very-close-for-comfort feels.

Granted, 27-year-old Eliza’s more exhausted than she’d ever fathomed possible, but they’re approaching their busy-bee life with positivity and good humour.

Daughter Charlie was first cab off the rank, born in January 2016. Eliza hadn’t really even thought about contraception, such was the new baby haze – and her belief in the myth that breastfeeding is a natural contraceptive. Uh-oh.

“My mum always said it takes six full weeks to come up for air!” Eliza told news.com.au.

“I was exhausted trying to figure out the ins and outs of being a mum, but about a month after having Charlie though I felt really super exhausted. Everyone told me it was sleep deprivation catching up with me but I was not convinced — I remember looking at Ben and saying ‘I think I’m pregnant’. He just laughed.”

White faces. White knuckles.

After four home pregnancy tests, the couple headed off to the doctor who delivered the very exciting/terrifying news that there were two babies on the way.

Needless to say, Ben was no longer laughing. #PoorBen

“When we found out Ben’s face just went white,” Eliza told The Daily Mail, adding that they remained firmly in denial until their obstetrician re-confirmed the pregnancy once-and-for-all.

Eliza says her family and friends also took a little while to get used to the impending arrivals.

“I was really excited to tell them I knew they were going be way more shocked than I was,” she said.

“When we went to dad and told him we had exciting news he thought we were going to get married. Then when we said we were going for round two, with twins his face turned to horror.”

Embrace the chaos

Still, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? The couple obviously adjusted their plans and headed into their adorable three-under-one life with gusto.

“Soooo I’m pregnant. Which is great. Except for the fact that I actually just finished being pregnant. In fact, I was only blessed with the sheer joy of having one’s body back for six weeks in total… the first spent in a sleep deprived, hormonal haze – followed by a few glorious weeks of independence. Well as independent one can be with a newborn attached to your nipple. But here we are – again. Wonnnnnderful. Oh and one more thing. There’s two,” Eliza explained as she launched her (lovely and very well-written twin-focused) blog Twingenuity.

A perfect set

Babies Jack and Wolfe were born on Christmas Eve, much to the delight of big sister Charlie (and their mum and dad, of course!)

“After a routine trip to the hospital for a CTG the twins made an earlier than expected appearance – arriving at 36.5 weeks. Born via C-section, the boys weighed in at 3090g and 3070g respectively,” Eliza said.

Charlie’s taking the twins in her stride too, finding new ways to include them in her life.

“So far Charlie thinks they are pretty fab. Her hobbies include head butting them in an attempt to ‘give them a kiss’ — trying to poke their eyes out, sticking her grubby little fingers in their mouths and just generally trying to attack them anytime I turn my head,” Eliza revealed.

The mum-of-three is focusing her efforts on a) keeping herself and the children alive and b) documenting the family’s journey via her blog. It’s full of useful and practical tips for other families with twins (and more!)

For all the pregnant mothers of twins who are yet to give birth – I'm telling you now they are easier out than in! This was me at 35 weeks – I couldn't walk from the car to the house (20m) without having to stop at the half way mark for a breather – and I was so exhausted by the time I got inside I had to take 5. I was 35kg heavier than my usual weight, hot as hell and well and truly over it! Standing was uncomfortable, sitting was uncomfortable, laying down – that was uncomfortable and god forbid I dropped something on the floor – it was dead to me. Here's to having my body to myself for the first time in two years … Feels bloody ahhhmazzzzingggg 💃🏻#twinpregnancy #twins #twinmom #pregnant #pregnancy #twinpregnancy @pumpthebump
