The newborn love bubble is such a wonderful stage especially if you’re a first-time mum, and no one is feeling it more at the moment than Turia Pitt. The author and motivational speaker has shared a beautiful note with her followers of how she’s hanging on to every sweet moment with her new baby son.
Writing it down
When you have a small baby it can be hard to keep track of what’s going on among all the feeds, sleepless nights and everything else that comes with looking after a small human. There is so much to learn and embrace, with every day both a challenge and a joy.
Turia Pitt and her fiancé, Michael Hoskin, welcomed their first child together last month – a little boy named Hakavai Hoskin – and although each day is busy, the new mum told her fans yesterday that she’s been trying to take note of everything she’s experiencing in case she forgets just how amazing it is.
“Whenever I get a few minutes, I’ve been jotting down some words about my experience as Hak’s mum so far. I don’t want to forget this time and writing has felt good,” the resilience and self-acceptance advocate wrote on her Instagram account, alongside a beautiful snap of her holding sweet little Hakavai.
An unsettled baby
Keen to further share her motherhood journey, Turia then went on to send a heartfelt newsletter to all her followers with one of her recent journal entries on her time with Hav. It was a moment many mums will be familiar with. Your bub is screaming and you can’t figure out what is making him so distressed and then BAM!
You were screaming uncontrollably.
I’d checked your nappy. Checked if you were too hot or too cold. Tried to feed you. Tried a dummy on you.
Your little face was screwed up and red and when you cried all I could see was your gums.
My poor darling. What’s bothering you?
I took you out onto the balcony and held you and we both looked at the black cockatoos and listened to the ocean.
“Everything’s gonna be alright”
Unable to guess what was wrong with Hakavai, Turia explains she turned to music in an attempt to soothe him – and it worked.
And I started to sing (badly) a Bob Marley song to you.
“Rise up this morning
Smiled with the rising sun
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singing sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true
Saying: this is my message to you”
And you looked right at me. And you smiled. And you laughed. As if to say: “Mum, don’t worry. Everything’s gonna be alright.”
No, it’s not Ri Ri – it’s your main girl T! Easy mistake to make, we look almost identical, I know 😂 Just popping into your feed to do a roll call for my Clean Slate Challenge. Who’s in? Over three days, I’m gonna show you how to start 2018 feeling fresh, clear and motivated. At the end, you’re gonna know: – What makes you feel motivated (and how to clear your life of the stuff that doesn’t) – The people and relationships that fuel you in a positive way (and how to step back from the relationships that don’t), and; – What it is you really DO want to achieve (and how to let go of the stuff that doesn’t work for you) Yew! Stay in the moment
Turia’s beautiful snapshot in time also served as a welcome reminder for her to stay present and to hang on to every sweet, precious moment.
So now, whenever I’m stressed, overwhelmed, anxious or just flustered as f#ck, I pick you up, sing that song, breathe in your intoxicating scent and remind myself not to get too far ahead of right here, right now.
Stay in the moment Turia, and enjoy each and every one of them.
Her message to others
Turia’s advice to herself is something she wants others to take on board as well, concluding her newsletter with a plea to all her followers to slow down, focus on today and have faith that everything will be okay.
“When you’re working towards the things you want this year, I want you to try not to get too far ahead of yourself. When it all feels too overwhelming, or when life gets stressy and messy, take a deep breath,” she urged.
“All you really can do, and need to do, is focus on this moment, and the small step forward you can take today. The rest will follow. It’s true – every little thing is gonna be alright. Turia xx”
Beautiful and important words Turia – thanks for the reminder and congratulations again on becoming a mum!
