There’s a hot new contender for Meg and Harry’s baby name
Names for Baby Sussex have been thrown around since the couple announced their pregnancy, but one in particular is now looking like a clear favourite according to the experts.

While punters had previously been insisting that Harry and Meghan might call their baby Diana if she was a girl, a much more popular contender has now been flagged by betting agencies.
“There has now been a flurry of bets on another name,” Hello! magazine reports. “Elizabeth, in honour of Harry’s grandmother the Queen.”
They note that “Elizabeth is now 6-1, down from 16-1, while Diana is the second favourite at 8-1, alongside Victoria.”
It’s interesting that these names are so very traditional, given that this royal couple are not. There’s a likelihood that the pair may choose a more ‘normal’ name for their wee son or daughter, and perhaps pop the hat-tip to family or ancestors in as a middle name.
Not likely
From where we stand it seems unlikely that Harry and Meghan would use Diana – which is, of course, the name of Harry’s mother – as a first name. There’s only one royal Diana and – should they have a little girl – we’re certain that they would not subject her to a lifetime of having the tragic death of her late grandmother associated with her, every time someone mentioned her name.
So do we know if this baby will be a boy or a girl? The pair have said they don’t want to find out and are apparently opting for a gender neutral nursery. BUT while they were in Australia in October, Harry did let slip to a well-wisher that he’d love a little girl. Of course, he probably would have said just the same about a boy … and is most certainly looking forward to simply having a healthy baby, as is the case with all new parents.
Where will the royal baby be born?
Meanwhile, the countdown to Baby Sussex rolls on, with his or her expected arrival date tipped for the end of April. Arrangements for the birth are still unclear, with Meghan tipped to possibly deliver at a hospital near to the pair’s new home in Windsor OR the traditional Lindo Wing of London’s St Mary’s Hospital.
Many are hoping the couple will create their own baby tradition, perhaps by choosing the birth centre at Surrey’s Frimley Park Hospital. Their Mulberry Birth Centre is equipped with five birthing rooms one of which includes a birthing pool.
“Our birth centres offer a ‘home from home’ environment to mothers-to-be with a straightforward pregnancy that are expected to give birth between 37 and 42 weeks,” the hospital’s website explains. “The rooms are furnished to support your choice of natural birth and create an atmosphere that will help you and your birth partner feel as calm as possible.”
We’ll find out soon enough what the final decision is, but it’s also worth noting that Lindo Wing staff have reportedly been told not to take leave in April, so St Mary’s is still a possibility too.
The royals are birth prepping in lots of ways including creating the Instagram account – the Sussex Family – that the baby’s first photo will be debuted on and shopping for natural products to assist with labour.
In just a couple of weeks, we’ll know exactly where this little one will be born and whether Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ cousin is a little Earl or Lady.
