There are some surprise new entries in the top baby names of 2019
It’s the time of the year where all those tip-top lists come out, and the excellent people at BabyCenter has come up with one that includes the top 100 boy’s and girls’ baby names for this year.
Some interesting ‘new’ names appear on the list, and some surprising trends for unusual baby names have been revealed too.
Let’s get into it!
Fresh faces for girls
Which baby names popped up on the list in 2019 but weren’t there last year? Let’s find out!
- Sadie, who comes in at number 67.
- Hallie follows closely behind at 72.
- Remi sweeps in at 80th on the list.
- The new to-the-list Nora is at 86.
- Eden, Lara and Everly are at 88, 89 and 90 in the top 100.
- And the pretty and old-fashioned Maggie is at 92.
New boys on the Top 100 block
And the following names turned up in 2019 — but not in 2018.
- Hamish — at 65 — is new to the top 100 this year.
- Kobe at 67 is also a fresh face.
- Owen made the top 100 at 73.
- Miles is at 76 and Domini is at 80.
- Fletcher and Luke are at 82 and 83.
- And Mateo is at 86.
- River is new in at 90 and Leon is at 93.
- Then we have Christian, Felix, Phoenix and Alex. They’re 95, 96, 97 and 98.

What’s next?
Outside the top 100, BabyCenter suggested that we might find Koa, Rafael, Roman, Chase and Cruz in next year’s top 100 for boys.
For girls, they singled out Rosie, Sarah, Abby, Gracie, Darcy, Molly and Eliana as perhaps most likely to turn up on next year’s top 100 list.
BabyCenter also pulled together some data on more unusual baby name trends.
Spiritual names are becoming increasingly popular.
“Much more spiritual additions included Hailo, Halcyon, Harmony, Heaven, Soul, Zen and Zerenity. And sparkly monikers for girls included Amethyst, Diamond and Emerald.”

Car-related names are accelerating, too.
“Lexus and Kea roared into this year’s baby girls’ name register, while Ayrton (Senna), Diesel, Ford, Rexton and Royce raced in for boys.”
And food-related names are on the boil.
“Continuing last year’s culinary interest, Basil, Bay, Caique, Crostini, Gingko, Guinness, Milq, Mint and Rye appeared on this year’s tasty menu,” BabyCenter says. Um. Crostini? Wait. Whut?
