No flow in Chicago: Kim Kardashian’s kind of regretting her baby’s name
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed a baby girl via gestational carrier back in January, and discussion about her name has been ongoing.
No flow in Chicago
Young Chicago West was born on January 15, named for her recording artist father’s hometown. Very recently, Kim appeared to reveal the baby’s middle name, sharing a photo of the wee gal on Instagram with the caption “Chicago Noel”. (Noel is also Kim’s middle name.)
Kim’s now saying in a video on her website that she thinks Chicago’s first name is too long – and not in keeping with her siblings’ shorter, snappier names (North and Saint).
“Chicago just looks really long to me and doesn’t flow, so I call her Chi. That’s it, she can decide later if she wants to be called Chicago or Chi … When she first came out I was like ‘what do we name her?’ It was the hardest decision ever and I could not think of a name.”

Noel, Rei, Mary Jo …
She also explained that Noel is not officially Chicago’s middle name, despite Instagram impressions – and that Kanye is not a fan of the name Noel at all.
“I love the name Noel. Kanye does not,” she told friend and former employee Steph Shep. “So I unofficially Instagrammed ‘Chi Noel’ and I was like I’m doing this because I want her middle name to be Noel.”
“I haven’t really been into middle names, but I really wanted a name that was short,” Kim explained. “A one-syllable name. Noel is my middle name, and it’s not a one-syllable name, but it’s short.”
Short and sweet
Kim confirmed Chi’s official middle name is a work in progress because they haven’t quite decided on one they both like. She said they initially had plenty of names prepared for their new daughter, but realised none of them truly suited their very “girly” baby.
“We were going to name her Rei and spell it R-e-i for Kanye’s dad Rei and she doesn’t look like a Rei. We were going to call her Jo for Mary Jo and have it be Jo West. She doesn’t look like a Jo.” #Okurrrr
