Name nope: Baby naming laws from around the globe
In many countries, kids are protected from the outlandish names their parents choose, but in others (hello USA) it’s pretty much free rein and you may literally (and regrettably) run into a child called “Adolf Hitler” – despite the authorities’ best efforts.
Here’s the skinny on how the world names – and doesn’t name – their littlies.

German parents have fairly free rein when it comes to naming babies.
The rights of parents to choose their bub's first name is only limited if it adversely affects the welfare of the child, as in a recent case where a German couple sought to name their little boy Lucifer. It was a no-go by the authorities, so they opted for Lucian, instead.
