Gail Smith had been a principal for 29 years. In that time she saw children grow from their first tentative steps into the kindergarten class to their jubilant graduation in year 6.

Over those years Gail learned a lot about how children thrive. Her book is called The Primary Years, A principal’s perspective on raising happy kids.

Now a grandparent, she shares her experience and wisdom on topics like how to talk to kids, how involved parents should be with school and how we can all approach the return-to-school period after lockdown.
