New reproductive technology could eradicate disease, but should we use it?

Right now in Australia, there are discussions about the future of reproductive technology.

In particular, whether or not we should start using three strands of DNA for fertility treatments.

The debate is balanced between the benefits, such as potentially eradicating mitochondrial disease, and the physical and ethical risks of tinkering with DNA.

Ainsley Newson, Associate Professor of Bioethics at Sydney University and Sean Murray, CEO of the Mito Foundation, break down the pros and cons of the debate.

They point out why this isn’t Gattaca territory, and how the technology could change lives for the better.
