Nicole O’Neil and Nate Cooke: Bachie’s bum, Bluey for Prime Minister and more
Former Real Housewife of Sydney Nicole O’Neil from Pret-a-Party and life coach Nate Cooke from Gritboxx talk to Shevonne Hunt about the topics making headlines in the parenting world.
These topics this week include:
- The impact of Israel Folau as a role model and his latest Instagram post condemning homosexuals
- Whether Sam Wood’s post of his bare bottom warranted such a furore on Instagram
- The cartoon character who would make the best Prime Minister of Australia
- Easter traditions and what “bashing eggs” is all about
Listen to Nicole O’ Neil and Nate Cooke on The Parent Panel:
Should public role models be punished?
Australian Rugby player Israel Folau is in hot water again after posting a comment on Instagram telling sinners to repent or they will go to hell. Sinners including, among others, homosexuals.
This is not the first time Folau has posted this kind of comment.
In April last year in a conversation on social media, when asked what God’s plan was for homosexuals he said hell – unless they repent.
At the time he received no sanction from Rugby Australia. In fact, he ended up being signed for another four years. Now after Rugby Australia threatened to cancel his contract Folau has responded by requesting a code of conduct hearing, likely to happen next week.
As parents, we are often told to watch how we behave, as we are role models to our children. But there are role models that we can’t control – like Israel Folau or Miley Cyrus. What would you like governing bodies like Rugby Australia to do in the wake of these kinds of comments?
Bachie’s bum: A storm in a teacup?
This week, after a holiday in Port Douglas, former Bachelor star Sam Wood posted a photo to Instagram.
It featured he and his daughter Willow on a beach, nude, with their backs to the camera. It caused quite a furore.
Is Sam’s photo inappropriate? Will his daughter Willow grow up to blame her dad for psychological damage? Or is this all a storm in a teacup?
What cartoon character would make the best PM for Australia?
This week a friend of Shevonne’s posted a picture of Bluey from the ABC cartoon with the caption “Bluey for Prime Minister!” There were many people who agreed with her.
If you had to choose a cartoon character for Australia’s next Prime Minister – who would it be? Why choose them?
How do you celebrate Easter?
Easter has morphed into a chocolate event of gigantic proportions, but it means different things to different people.
What does Easter look like in your household? If it involves chocolate how do you keep it under control? Do your children know the real meaning of Easter?
