When we were growing up, the school canteen was like the Wild West of questionable nutrition, focusing more on convenience and commercial snacks than healthily filling little tummies up.

Since then, things have shifted dramatically. It’s out with the questionable (but often delicious!) and in with the wholesome. 

"Healthy" snacks

Space Food Sticks, Sesame Snaps, Honey Rolls and Apricot Bars were the pretend healthy foods of our childhoods, since replaced by actual healthy foods! Some canteens sold actual lollies in the 80s and 90s, perhaps your school was one of those dealing liquorice and jubes to the kids?!
