Why Dax Shepard’s really glad he and Kristen Bell don’t have a prenup

When Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard were planning their wedding, Dax went all out to make sure his bride-to-be felt trusted and secure.

Forget about it!

Admittedly he pushed back against some of his own instincts, but he’s kind of glad now because things have turned out for the better.

Appearing on Conan earlier this week, Dax explained that he’d rebuffed Kristen’s proactive premarital offer.

“When we first started dating, I had more money than her and I owned the house that I lived in,” Dax began, “And she said to me at one point, ‘Would you like a prenup?’”

“I said, ‘No, I don’t want a prenup,’ … but I really wanted a prenup, really bad.”

“I really wanted a prenup!”

To illustrate just how badly he wanted a prenup, he repeated this statement more than once. It appears that he didn’t want to offend Kristen as they prepared to walk down the aisle, so he pretended not to care about safeguarding their finances pre-emptively.

It turns out he’s very, very happy with the way things have rolled.

“I made the right decision,” Dax quipped. “The joke is on her now because she’s become much more successful than me and has much more money than me! … Or does she?!”

Shifting fortunes

Indeed, Kristen’s career really is soaring now, with her roles in the Frozen movies, TV series The Good Place and the Bad Moms franchise keeping the couple’s coffers nicely stocked.

Dax hasn’t exactly been resting on his laurels, but it’s fair to say that, despite best efforts, his latest movie ChiPs didn’t exactly set the world on fire. His Armchair Expert podcast is proving more popular, if a little more niche.

All that said, Hollywood success is a fickle thing and playing the long game – which we think Dax is – makes a lot of sense.

Queer Eye-ing it

Dax also told Conan, Kristen has a lot of influence not just on their financial planning, but their TV viewing too. It turns out they’ve been watching the reboot of Queer Eye and it’s paying dividends in the beauty stakes … for Dax.

“My wife insisted I watch this show … Queer Eye For The Straight Guy,” Dax said.

“I didn’t want to watch it, because there’s no dragons or swords or any of that stuff. Well they find this adorable gentleman down south. And he’s older and he’s got some redness and they start putting on like a green stick … that redness starting going away. Then he had some puffy eyes and they put on an ice mask and that puffiness went away. And then has a beard, not unlike mine, and they added beard oil to it and became luxurious … and moist looking.”

“So I ordered all those products,” he explained. “I bought every single one of them. And as they were arriving, I didn’t really want my wife to see, but she was noticing I had all these products and I started using them and boy, it’s had the same reaction for me. My beard looks moist … like a dense cupcake”

It’s fair to say that Dax appears supremely proud of his newly tjzuzed facade and Kristen, yet again, has set him on the right track!
