Sam Worthington wants to go full time dad: “I love it more than anything”

Lara and Sam Worthington

Sam Worthington has taken to fatherhood like a duck to water, and nobody is more surprised than the man in question, it seems.

Sam admits that his family is his whole world, and that he’d gladly be the at-home parent, if circumstances dictated. Just how much he loves his new dad role has apparently caught him unawares.

“The most surprising thing about fatherhood is that I love it,” the notoriously private Sam told News.com.au.

“I love it more than anything in the world. If my job now didn’t exist I would be a stay at home dad.”

“Hopeful”

Sam is dad to 2-year-old and 5-month-old boys, his children with wife Lara Worthington (nee Bingle).

The (ridiculously attractive) Australian couple are currently raising their kids in New York.

Sam says becoming a parent has completely shifted his perspective and helped him focus on the things that matter most.

“My life changed once I had children. Everything changes when you have kids because it’s not about you and what are you doing anymore. Suddenly it becomes about them and that leads you to go, ‘Well I don’t need to be angry at this person anymore or angry at the world because that’s not important.’ What is important is them and that they have a future and a father that appears hopeful.”

“Insanely amazing”

Lara feels just the same, as new mums are wont to do. Motherhood has helped her truly settle into the skin she’s in.

“The most empowering moment of my life to date would be giving birth.”

“It is the most beautiful, insanely amazing thing in the world. Today, I am a mother,” she said of her mum role in a short film for Westfield (below).

Protective

Sam is famously anti-social media, with Lara adjusting her own attitude to platforms like Instagram and Twitter to align with her private partner’s.

“I am a very protective man, especially with my loved ones so now I’m a parent I think I just got a little bit more protective,” the dad-of-two told the Sydney Morning Herald as he chatted to them about the Avatar 2 release a couple of weeks ago.

It seems having two little boys in his life has altered his focus considerably, with Worthington admitting that big lessons have been learnt.

“I think having kids helps you learn how to forgive… they are an antidote to selfishness,” he said.
