Actors Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell are parents to five-year-old Lincoln and four-year-old Delta and their recent ‘birds and bees’ talk with their oldest daughter didn’t quite go according to plan.

“Where do babies come from?”

Kristen and Dax popped up on Ellen this week and they shared some details about how they answered the curly question of baby-making with Lincoln.

“She said, ‘Well, where do babies come from?’ and we were both like …” Kristen told Ellen illustrating their response with a heavy sigh.

“Real talk,” Dax confirmed of the moment that pretty much every parent has to tackle at one point or another.

Keen to do a very, very good job and clue their kiddo in expertly, they asked Lincoln to sit down and launched into a robust anatomically correct explanation of how conception occurs.

“Laying it out”

It’s fair to say that the pair didn’t hold back in their quest for transparency and it’s also highly likely that they may have overplayed their hand a titch.

“We went through the anatomy. Penis, vagina, ovum, sperm,” Dax explained. “We’re laying it all out. We get right to the action …”

“Right to the good part,” Kristen butted-in. “And she’s like (irritated), ‘OK, I gotta go outside.’ And she just left.”

“She bailed,” Dax confirmed. “She knows all the organs, but when it got to the actual … the nuts and bolts of the operation.”

“She didn’t care,” Kristen said noting, “we bored her to death.”

Achievement unlocked?

It’s possibly an experience other parents can relate to because ‘the talk’ is often so anticipated that many of us go a leeeetle bit overboard when the moment finally arrives.

Maybe we’ve been practising it for years and feel that it’s a milestone moment where we get a chance to shine? Except we don’t. LOL.

Still, it’s kind of nice to know that even celebrity mums and dads can get a teeny bit OTT with the real talk sometimes too, right?!
