Man of the Woods
Avid Timberlake fans are sure to love the Kinfolk-esque album teaser, although, for some of us, it’s a little reminiscent of Brad Pitt’s infamous national park shoot and we’re semi-wary of this gritty reinvention.
That said, the former Mickey Mouse Club star’s Man of the Woods album is due out in early February, with the first single slated to drop this Friday. The very cowboy promo is going absolutely gangbusters as we speak.
The clip features Justin talking about how his life and priorities have shifted, and also shows the shirtless singer cuddling his toddler son. It’s a rare glimpse of young Silas, as Jess and Justin usually keep him far from the media’s prying eyes, and JT says this new music is hugely influenced by the little guy.
“Inspired by my son”
“This album is really inspired by my son, my wife, my family, but more so than any other album I’ve ever written, where I’m from and it’s personal,” Justin explains in the clip which features a series of shots of him stretching his arms out (hello Jesus) and wandering through rivers, corn fields, snow, woodsy places … sometimes marvelling at horses, sometimes squinting.
It’s a whole new lumberjack-styled, kneeling, stretching incarnation of the Sexy Back star. A little more Timberland Timberlake, if you will.
“It feels like mountains, seas, campfires, like Wild West, like now” Biel confirms of this new country-meets-r-and-b moody version of her hubby.
“It feels so earthy. It’s just where you are in your life now,” collaborator Pharrell Williams agrees.
The album trailer is a bit of a hat tip to Westworld, even, diverting from the usual upbeat Timberlake vibes and wandering into much darker territory. It’s possible JT’s trying to leave those Mickey Mouse Club days far behind, and show us that he’s well and truly grown up. It’s also fair to say that Jessie/Jessica is actually a really excellent cowperson in her own right too (see below!)
