Brad and Ange’s co-parenting plan: “We will always be a family”

angelina jolie and kids

Speaking out for the first time following her split with husband Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie is stressing the importance of co-parenting and sharing her hopes for a stronger family, post-divorce.

“We are a family”

Mum-of-six Angelina told BBC World News that things had been fraught since the couple split, but she was keen to maintain the family’s privacy as they found a new way to be together.

“I don’t want to say very much, except to say it was a very difficult time,” Angelina said.

“We are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it.”

“My focus is my children”

Angelina was visiting Cambodia with the six children she shares with her soon-to-be ex-husband, launching her latest film – First They Killed My Father – in partnership with Netflix.

Brad and Ange’s high-profile split is obviously taking its toll.

Angelina said she’s getting through the breakup by prioritising the happiness and welfare of her kids.

“My focus is my children, our children, and my focus is finding this way through.”

Co-parenting alumni

Brad and Angelina are not the only ones endeavouring to put their kids first and co-parent post-split.

Other high-profile parents seem to be popping their differences on the back-burner and putting their kids’ needs first.

Nice one, guys!

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth spoke to Red Magazine about redefining her relationship with ex Chris Martin, for the sake of their kids.

“You have to press the button – I’m going back to the baseline of I love this person, he’s the father of my children, he’s a wonderful man. I’m just going to put my shit aside for right now.”

“It really has not been easy for me at times, I’m sure it’s not been easy for him. But when we said we’re going to put the children first, we meant it. If you want to put your children first then why are you slagging your husband off in front of them?,” Gwyneth said.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are also working hard on finding a new way of being together, yet apart.

“She’s a great mom. We try our best. We both take them trick or treating,” Affleck told ExtraTV back in October when asked about parenting after separation.

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy

Kate Hudson shared a glimpse into her new-style life with ex, Matt Bellamy.

“Relationships ending are painful, and you can choose to carry that or you can choose to reframe it. If Matt and I had a great relationship, we would still be together, but we chose to move on because we had different visions of how we wanted to live our lives,” Kate told Allure Magazine.

Drew Barrymore and Will Kopalman

Drew says she and ex-husband Will are family, through and through.

“We are a family. We’re actually blood related. Will’s family is my family, and my daughters are my family. I never thought I’d be so lucky to have so many families!” She told EOnline.

Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon

Ryan’s another advocate of getting to a place where the kids are the priority (as opposed to any resentful post-split feelings.)

“You have to get to that point as a divorced parent, as any parent, where you’re not putting yourself first,” Phillippe said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Heidi Klum and Seal

Project Runway’s Heidi Klum says divorce and kids are the ultimate make-it-work moment.

“It’s never really easy, I guess, when you break up. There was probably a reason for it and it kind of takes its time but then, you know, we’re always there for our children and always will be. You always make it work. You just do,” Heidi told ET when asked about co-parenting after her split with Seal.

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber

Naomi and Liev may have split, but that doesn’t stop them spending quality time together with their kids.

“We’re parents together, so we’ll be together for the rest of our lives, no matter what. And we’re very close. Hopefully that never changes, and I don’t think it will,” Liev told CBS.

It’s inspiring to see these famous mums and dads doing what’s best for their kids, under difficult circumstances.

Perhaps some of it is PR spin, but the sentiment behind their co-parenting hopes is one to aspire to.
