Ryan Reynolds has just voiced the role of Detective Pikachu in an upcoming movie of the same name and this provided a brilliant opportunity for Blake Lively to do what she does very well … troll her husband.

“Who are they?”

Ryan and wife Blake Lively have teamed up on a promo for the film which pokes fun at the Deadpool star’s acting and parenting prowess.

In the promo posted to Twitter, Ryan reveals how passionately he approached the part of Detective Pikachu, as his wife looks on in disbelief.

“As many of you know, I vanish into my roles,” Ryan explains in the clip alluding to a form of method acting that sounds very consuming.

“This is a funny anecdote,” he continues, in an effort to illustrate just how seriously he took the role.

“I was on my way to pick up my daughters from school when I heard that I got the role. Well, I didn’t show up at school.”

But why, you might be asking, didn’t he show up?

“Because, Detective Pikachu doesn’t know who those two little girls are,” Ryan explained. “Who are they?”

Blake then chimes in – dead-pan unimpressed – pointing out, “They’re our daughters. He just left them.”

Hardly the leap

Blake is also not convinced voicing Detective Pikachu is the performative leap her husband seems to be selling us.

“I mean, he didn’t even change his voice … It just sounds like him.”

Blake, who has been keeping an uncharacteristically low profile this year – sparking rumours of a possible pregnancy – is mum to two little girls with Ryan. Inez is two and James is four.

In the movie promo, Ryan quipped that they “may never see their dad again,” but asserted that “you can be damn sure they’ll be looking up at the big screen this summer, and they’re going to see Detective Pikachu.”

“We’re not going,” a sceptical Blake retorted, laughing. #FeelTheBurn
