Actor Tessa James and former rugby league star Nate Myles’ baby boy is now nine-months-old, and the mum-of-one is celebrating good health and good times with a cover shoot – and extended chat – with Women’s Health magazine.
A little Saynt
You may know that Tessa’s had a pretty rough trot, being diagnosed with cancer, enduring gruelling chemo and – brilliantly – marking three years in remission in February of this year.
The former Neighbours and Home and Away star was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2014, as her dad, James, was also being treated for cancer at the very same time.
This cancer diagnosis meant she had to choose between starting chemo immediately or waiting long enough to freeze some of her eggs (in case her fertility was affected.) She chose to undergo life-saving chemo urgently, realising that it might mean she and then husband of 3 years, Nate Myles, could have issues conceiving a baby when they were ready.
Amazingly, her treatment was not only successful, she then fell pregnant, giving birth to a baby boy – named Saynt – in December last year.

“It’s the best thing that’s happened to us”
Tessa says becoming a parent has been the absolute best, especially after such tricky times.
“[Nate and I] love parenthood,” she told Women’s Health. “People tell you so many things and you hear things, but you never really know until you do something. It’s the best thing that’s happened to us and we are really enjoying it.”
While it’s obvious that parenting suits this couple brilliantly, Tessa stressed that it’s not always peachy. That said, every day brings something new.
“You know, it’s hard, but it’s a great challenge. It’s amazing seeing this little person that you created grow up and learn things and see things for the first time,” she explained, noting that Saynt’s becoming much more mobile as he nears his first birthday.

“He loves his sleep but goes hard during the day. It’s working those things out, which is really fun. [My son] looks exactly like my husband, but he’s me in that he just goes from 0 to 100 and then straight back down again and crashes.”
There’s no doubt the challenges she’s faced have given this lovely mum a unique perspective on what matters most.
“[Happiness is] being with my family – my son and husband,” she said. “If my son is happy and we’re all together, it doesn’t matter where we are or what we are doing.”
