If you have a social-media obsessed tween or teen on your hands, you’ll know there’s a whole new language you need to learn. And these sweater-wearing, laundry-folding mums are stepping out from behind the groceries to show you exactly how it’s done. Just wait until you hear what they have to say.
If the latest round of hashtags, abbreviations and social media slang has left you feeling old and yearning for the days when people used full sentences and correct grammar, then you will love the new and very funny ad campaign by American company, Hefty Ultimate Cups.
With their series of #PartyHardMoms, the company blends the ever-changing world of social media and Gen Z slang with the appearance of traditional mums for epic LOLs.
Hefty Cups director of marketing Lynnette Hinch says in the press release for the ad campaign that, “traditionally mothers are cast in one light: wholesome caregivers for their children”.
The marketing team wanted to prove that mums are more complex and multifaceted. “We decided to activate that sense of fun, juxtaposing their routine tasks with recaps of epic ragers from the night before”.
Okay, I will admit it – I am not familiar with half of the words coming out of these fast-talking mums’ mouths. What in the world is a “bae”? Is “turnt” a word fusion for totally burnt (Google informs me that this is definitely not what ‘turnt’ means!) And what is up with “on fleek?”
What social media slang is driving you cray cray (that means crazy) these days?
