Look where George and Charlotte get to spend their school holidays!
The little royals have headed to familiar territory to escape the press, get to know baby Louis and take in some good old-fashioned fresh air!
Jolly holidays with the royals
At least four of the Cambridges are spending the UK half-term break at the family’s country home – Anmer Hall – in Norfolk.
Kate, four-year-old George and three-year-old Charlotte were spotted off-duty at the Houghton Horse Trials over the weekend. The annual event, which the family have attended before, is just ten minutes from Anmer Hall, and it’s thought that Louis was safely back at the Hall in the care of a nanny.
Anmer Hall was a wedding gift to William and Kate from the Queen and the country home is located in her Sandringham Estate.
It’s super familiar to the family and was in fact, George and Charlotte’s first home together (Kate and William lived at Bucklebury Manor briefly when George born). The family then moved on to Kensington Palace in London ahead of the kids’ entry into school life. Prince George attends Thomas’s Battersea and Charlotte is at Willcocks Nursery School.
Green and private
The home underwent extensive renovations before the couple moved in, including a new roof, new kitchen, a conservatory, internal redecoration and a tree-planting programme to provide more privacy for the family.

Back in 2015 a no-fly zone was established over the property to ensure that the family were safe from the paparazzi’s prying eyes. Security staff also handed out fliers in the local village, warning photographers to give the young royals their space.
It’s not hard to see why they retreat here when they can, with Kate revealing they kept chickens at Anmer Hall – and the family dog Lupo and hamster Marvin were usually in attendance too.
“Large family home”
The house comes with a swimming pool, tennis court, lush grounds and a small staff including a full-time housekeeper. An ad for a royal housekeeper position, published in The Lady, reveals a little more about how this family live.
“Housekeeper sought for a large family home in Norfolk. We are looking for someone with previous housekeeping experience, ideally within a large private house, and preferably within a family environment with dogs.”
“Main duties will include: cleaning all areas of the house to a high standard; caring for and maintaining the home owners’ clothing; cleaning silverware and glassware; purchasing groceries and general provisions for the house; and dealing with deliveries. On occasions, the role will also involve the preparation of meals, assisting with childcare and caring for dogs … Discretion and loyalty is paramount.”
We’ll next be seeing the Cambridges together on offical duty at Trooping the Colour on 9 June, when the royal family traditionally celebrate on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. It’s thought that Prince Louis will still be too young to attend this popular event, but we are crossing our fingers for a fresh glimpse!
