Actor and broadcaster Kate Ritchie has somehow become the relentless target of tabloid marriage speculation over the last couple of years. The beloved former Home and Away star says she’s worked hard to shut that negative chatter out of her life – and is focusing on her family’s future instead.

Baseless gossip

Kate’s married to the very sporty Stuart Webb and says that despite what the gutter press would have readers believe, talk of relationship woes are “baseless”.

“I don’t want to say any more about it because I know that if I do then it will breathe life into it again and I don’t want to do that,” Kate told The Australian Women’s Weekly.  “I have had to learn not to let it affect. So I consciously refuse to let it affect me.”

Not only are those rumours baseless, the couple actually has plans to grow their family with a sibling for their four-year-old daughter, Mae.

“We would love to give Mae a little brother or sister one day,” Kate said.“That’s very much on the cards, even if I can’t tell when it might happen. That would be so lovely.”

“The greatest achievement of my life”

Mae is the apple of her mum’s eye, popping up semi-regularly on her mum’s Instagram account and generally being gosh-darned freaking adorable.

Kate says she’s savouring every moment of Mae’s preschool days – and is grateful for the fresh life perspective her daughter sparks.

“She is undoubtedly the greatest achievement of my life. I am most at ease with myself when I am with her,” she told the AWW. “She is challenging my ideas about myself. I can show her who I really am and not have any of that other baggage colour the relationship in any way. I think she is probably the first person who I have met who comes to me with a completely blank canvas.”

“She is only four but she is only one year away from going to school. I can see that day when I have to hand her over to someone else getting closer all the time and I want to keep savouring this time as long as I can.”

The mum-of-one is not only balancing family and a radio career, and doing glam magazine covers stories. She has also just released her second children’s book. It’s called It’s Not Scribble To Me, it looks smashing and your favourite kiddo probably needs it!
