Resembling bored Children of the Corn, Jess’s kids droned out their very own version of Happy Birthday to mark her son Ace’s birthday.
Jess’s son Ace has just turned four, and the proud mum has been sharing some celebratory snaps on Instagram to mark the occasion.
The video above for instance, captioned #carpoolkaraoke. It shows the birthday boy Ace and his big sister, 5-year-old Maxwell, strapped into their car seats and in transit with their mum. At her request, we presume, they begin to dutifully sing Happy Birthday on camera, and we’ve got to say that they might be a little doubtful about the whole singing and filming thing. We’ve all been there.
Still, they get on with the job at hand, delivering a slow and distracted rendition of everyone’s favourite birthday song as they glance at the screen.
When they’re done, Jess lets out a very impressed and slightly alarming “WOOOOOOH!” in praise of her kiddos. Perhaps heartened by her show of enthusiasm, the children begin to rally. A bit.
“Yay! Blow out your candle!” a mildly excited Maxwell suggests to Ace.
“I don’t have a candle!” he notes, fairly.
“Pretend! Pretend!” Maxwell suggests helpfully.
Good thinking, Max! Genius idea.
Jess shared another photo of Ace’s birthday, showing the little boy with a giant and delicious-looking cake, and a backdrop of super impressive and festive helium balloons.
“May wish #4 come true my beautiful baby boy,” she captioned the image – and now we are dying to know what wish #4 is, so thanks for that.
Ace hair day
Confirming that people can be acutely small-minded and unkind, many followers have taken to Jess’s Instagram comments section to complain about young Ace’s long hair and “girly” looks. Sigh. Even his birthday snaps were apparently fair game for these ridiculous criticisms.
“Please cut that hair. I know you are ‘Hollywood’ but that is god awful. You should be ashamed,” one wrote. We think she meant to type “Happy Birthday, Ace!”
“Hahahaha. Poor thing. He doesn’t stand a chance!” another posted festively. Not. Ugh.
For those playing at home, know that Jess began dating retired NFL player Eric Johnson – aka Maxwell and Ace’s dad – in May 2010. The pair were engaged in November 2010 and married in 2014. Maxwell, who was born on May 1, 2012, and a son Ace, born on June 30, 2013.
