A box of long-lost pictures is shedding light on what motherhood looked like around the world almost half a century ago.
Photographer Ken Heyman, 83, rediscovered the images after he was asked to remove his contents from a closing-down storage centre.
He uncovered a box labelled “Mothers” – a series of images of mums and their children he shot for Pulitzer-nominated book Family, which he wrote with renowned anthropologist Margaret Mead in 1965.
The gorgeous photos show mums around the world playing, laughing, comforting and working with their children. And while the fashions and surroundings may be very different to today’s, one thing’s for certain – the love between mothers and children stands every test of time. Here are just some of the photos from the precious collection.
