Dad’s lightning reflexes save baby from dangerous fall

dad instincts

Mums are renowned for their instincts, but one dad has proven he’s a dab hand when it comes to having a sixth sense for detecting danger (and for sleeping with one eye open).

A clip taken from home security camera footage shows the dad napping on his couch, surrounded by family including his toddler daughter. Suddenly, she takes a dive off the couch head-first – but just as quickly, dad snaps out of slumber and shoots his arm out to catch her.

The gif was uploaded to Reddit with the caption “Dad Instincts” and quickly went viral, with thousands of people congratulating the dad – and sharing stories about their own wriggly kids’ lucky (and not-so-lucky) escapes.

“Holding my son today and he jerks backwards violently, almost snapping his own little spine in half. Why, baby? Why?” laments one dad. “Yes. My six-week-old tries to launch himself off of me when I’m burping him or just holding him. He is scary strong,” responds another. “It truly is amazing how we survive past the first couple of years,” agrees yet another.

Others just share other gifs of dads showing off their protective instincts.

Nice catches, dads! (And there is a whole subreddit dedicated to dads’ reflexes if you like this kind of thing).
