Happy International Women’s Day Babyologists – today is a day to celebrate everything that we do. And while you may not get flowers or chocolates, here is what all mums need to celebrate on this special day.
International Women’s Day is a day to “celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women”. Even if you are not changing the world with your political views or rallying for social change in between nappy changes, each and every woman deserves to be saluted today, especially mums.
For the way you juggle work, household duties and kids, for the meals you cook (and then feed to the dog when the kids want sandwiches), for the daily drop off dramas you grin and bear, for the millions of books you read every year, we salute you.
For the boo boos you kiss, for the monsters you scare away, for the night time tickles you give, for the bubble baths you draw, for the birthday parties you slave over, we salute you.
Whether you’re a working mum, a stay at home mum, a mum of five or a mum of one, we salute you.
Most of us mums probably won’t even get an acknowledgement that today is anything out of the ordinary from our kids. But that doesn’t matter.
Cherish the things you do get – the extra cuddle at school drop off; the “I love you Mummy” when you least expect it; the cheeky grin your child gives you when you give her a special treat.
These moments are what makes each and every day special for us mums. Today may not be all about you (when you have kids, it never is), but take the time to enjoy five minutes to yourself and reflect on just how amazing of a job you are doing, not just on International Women’s Day, but every single day of the year.
