It may be the middle of winter, but we’re bringing a bit of summer fun into your lives today with a brilliant Beside the Seaside birthday! So turn up the heater and dive on in with us!
Little Isabella – Izzy for short – is a beach baby through and through. (Really, what other kind of baby can you be when born smack in the middle of an Aussie summer, we ask.) So when it came time to celebrate that all-important first birthday, it makes perfect sense that mum Zoe opted for a beach party.
And what a party it was! Held at kid-friendly Clovelly Beach in Sydney, the whole thing was as pretty, inspiring and fresh as the beach setting itself, with a very girly twist that had the little birthday miss stamped all over it.
Zoe looked to Pinterest for inspiration when it came to decorating the gazebo space, using a beachy mix of corals, pale pinks, sand, yellow and golds in the streamers, pompoms, garlands and party hats, all made herself. Other party printables came from Frog Prince Paperie.
Of course, swimming and fresh air makes one ravenous so Zoe and husband Leo served up a feast fit for… well, fit for a party-load of ravenous beachgoers. There were hotdog sailboats and Leo’s secret recipe hamburgers, served in toasted brioche rolls with homemade zucchini pickles. And that was just for the grown-ups. The kids tucked into aptly-named sand-wiches and starfish fruit kebabs.
Then came a whole school of totally cute sea-themed sweet treats from Copy Cat Cakes – sea scallop madeleines, pearl oyster cookies, octopops and sea anemone cupcakes among them. That’s not to forget the jars and jars of lollies and Candy Couture lollipops that were devoured with much gusto.
It was all washed down with ice-cold pink lemonade, fruit punch, Mango bellinis and, strictly for the grown-ups, Pimms.
The tiered chocolate ganache birthday cake from Copy Cat Cakes was another triumph, with its pretty ombre ruffles and circle of pearls. There was another cake too, a simpler but equally pretty ruffle cake, that the birthday girl got to smash in a special photo shoot.
When the tide began to turn and the sea breeze shifted, signalling it was time to go, each guest took home their own beach ball, bubbles and a cute sea creature cookie.
Now we couldn’t resist one last photo of this rather photogenic family – what a beautiful moment in a magnificent day.
