The new baby shower gift trend that makes SO much sense

If you’re the sort of person who buys lovely greeting cards to accompany gifts at baby showers, you’re going to love this sensible switcheroo.

Genius idea

With cards pushing up around the $10 mark now, some parents and parents-to-be are requesting well-wishers swap them out for books instead!

Rather than a nicely written card, this new push asks for a book inscribed with a personal message for the new baby (or even a birthday child?!)

It’s honestly a total win-win. Not only do babies score a book with a special note from someone special inside the cover, but card buyers can rest assured that their thoughts have truly counted and will be part of the kiddo’s life for the long term – in story form!

Books for baby

I suppose if you buy a book AND a present it’s not going to be super thrifty, but if the book takes the place of card and gift you’re going to come out WAY ahead – and help a little one build their library.

You can snaffle some brilliant classic children’s picture books for under $15. We’re thinking Where The Wild Things Are, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

Or you could invest in something for further down the track. Perhaps a volume of  Wind in the Willows or Pollyanna or Little Women could be good ideas?
