A traditional gingerbread house gets a retro mobile home makeover
I love a gingerbread house as much as the next child (or child at heart), but by jingle bells and jolly holly, I don’t think I’d be able to bring myself to take a bite out of this magnificent piece of gingerbread camper van art. Want to know how to construct this beauty for your own crafting, viewing and eating pleasure? Click on through for all the spicy details!
Now folks, let’s just set the disclaimer straight up that obviously this isn’t a project for those lacking Christmas spirit – we think you’re going to need quite a pinch of that. But if you have the nous to take on an epic project, I think this is the one you’ll want to tackle.
Set aside a good couple of days! Ashley of Sugar and Cloth says it took more than 20 hours for her and a professional to complete their DIY Retro Camper Gingerbread House, which is comforting. If I start now I might be done by New Year, in which case I’ll lacquer it and bring it out every Christmas. But imagine how giddy with gingerbread smugness I’ll be if I pull this off.
If you’re keen to make a camper van, complete with windows from crushed butterscotch lollies and string lights from twine, royal icing and candied sunflower seeds (I know, no words) you can get the full tutorial, recipe and download templates from Sugar and Cloth. Of course, if you just want to admire someone’s baking and decorating wizardry, you can do that too.
