Dandelions gently swaying in the wind, sweet little birdies, retro cassette tapes and the ‘rock on’ hand symbol might seem like a contradiction at first. But they all blend together seamlessly and beautifully in this line of organic clothing for children.
Called Tomat (tomato in Indonesian) the LA-based and made clothing oozes cool and distinctiveness. Silk-screened graphics abound on simply cut and timeless clothing ranging from onesies for the littlies to tees and dresses for the big kid set. There’s a massive range of slogan tees and although I’m not normally crazy about them for kids I do love Tomat’s collection as they manage to mix playful typography with groovy graphics. My favourites are the ‘future dj‘ onesie with the uber delicious turntable, the ‘sugar high‘ tee with a fantastic lollipop and the ‘scream for ice cream‘ shirt (I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!).
The range caters well for both boys and girls and I’ve already got my eye on the stunning ‘birds’ organic dress for my daughter (as seen in pink above). What I love about Tomat clothing is that it isn’t pretentious but still has bags of style. It can be worn to the park, worn to a party or worn every day. Can’t ask for more than that! To get your little one a bit of Tomat in their closet, head to Billy Lids where prices start at $27.
