We’ve all heard of Transformers, but we’ve never seen transforming toys quite as slick as the handcrafted, wooden WooBots.
“Gone are the days of cheap and nasty plastic toys,” is the declaration from Bamloff Toys, the Canadian company behind WooBots ($41.70). A look around a department store would suggest otherwise, but we like the spirit anyway. Bamloff has created a collection of five unique WooBots. Each one transforms from a robot to a different vehicle or vessel.
There are robots like the sweet Beetle, a baby robot that transforms into the iconic Volkswagon car of the same name. And then there are robots like the serious, weapon-equipped Jet Fighter. There’s also a truck, bus and a pretty incredible war ship.
WooBots are around 15cm tall and made from 15-20 individual wooden blocks. The blocks are laser cut and assembled by hand to make sure every joint and part moves precisely how it should.
While they make a great toy for kids, we can imagine quite a few adults who might appreciate a WooBot for their very own.
Bamloff just closed its Kickstarter campaign to raise money to put WooBots into production, and they exceeded their goal by almost $80,000. We’ll keep you updated when they open their online store.
