Who’s your hero?

customised dolls

If you despise Barbie and Ken and think your kids should be playing with more realistic dolls, how about a miniature version of yourself?

I bet Cyndi Safstrom didn’t imagine she would become an ‘action figure artist’  when she grew up! Send in pictures to Safstrom and she’ll sculpt a doll’s head to match your photo. The head is then attached to either a doll or action figure body, dressed in carefully chosen clothing and voila, your very own mini-me.

Check out the image gallery at Be a Doll – Safstrom recreates all the important details from nose piercings and beards to smiles and snarls. I like the fact that the people and dolls featured look like ordinary folk – nice to think that a child somewhere sees their grandpa or grandma as a ‘hero’ although Safstrom notes that most of the orders come from men wanting action figures of themselves!

Dolls are US$180 each. Contact Be a Doll directly to order.

Katrina studied planning and design, did the hard yards working in a big office building and then traded it all in for a relaxing (!) life at home with four children. She now fills her time with writing, completing a degree in genetics and taxiing her children around Melbourne to their various sporting commitments (not necessarily in that order).
