When Clayton and Brittany Cook got married last Friday, they could not have predicted the soggy situation they’d soon find themselves in.
A special shout out to last night's groom Clayton! While I was taking solo pictures of the bride this little guy was…
The newlyweds were having their photos taken, perched on a bridge in a pretty park, when a worrying commotion caught Clay’s attention. A little boy who’d been playing nearby had been pushed into the river by another child. The boy was having trouble keeping his head above water and things were going pear-shaped very quickly.
“His face was underwater and he was fighting, like he was really fighting,” Clay told CTV News, revealing he quickly scooped him out of the water before tragedy struck.
“Luckily, he was only a little guy…and I honestly just sort of hopped him up.”
Brittany says it took her a little while to realise what was going on. By the time she did, her new husband had everything firmly in hand and had already saved the day (and the kid!).
“I look over and I see Clay in the water and I think, what is he doing?” Brittany recalls.
When she realised what had just played out she was relieved, but unsurprised.
“That’s Clay, like that’s Clay to me. It’s something he would just instinctively do. It was like fate almost, we were meant to be there,” she mused.
“Well done, Sir!”
One shows a dapper Clay, as he fishes the drenched and distressed little boy out. (There’s a ledge that runs along the riverside, which Clay’s standing on, in case you were wondering why he looks strangely dry! He was able to save the kiddo without going all the way in!).
The other pic shows the child walking away to rejoin his playmates and sibling. Apparently the soggy boy did not say a word during the entire ordeal. His older sibling apparently then took the little guy home.
“A special shout out to last night’s groom Clayton!” Darren posted alongside the shots.
“While I was taking solo pictures of the bride this little guy was pushed into the river behind me by another child. By the time the bride noticed and shouted out, Clayton had already jumped down and brought him to safety. His quick action saved the little guy who was struggling to swim. Well done sir!”
