Do you remember back in April when I told you all I was going to tackle Michelle Bridges’ 12 Week Body Transformation? Well, I’m happy to say I made it through the entire 12 weeks! Yay me! Come find out how I did.
I wasn’t terribly overweight when I signed on for 12WBT, but I was aiming to get a little fitter and hoping to end up a little trimmer too. I’m sure a lot of our Babyology mums will nod when I say that having three children certainly takes its toll on your body. It’s a wonderful journey, the road to motherhood, but it’s one that can leave you with a little bulge here and a little bump there long after your pregnancy bump is gone. Getting rid of those lumps and bumps isn’t easy when you’re juggling work with family life and the demands of caring for three feisty young children.
So, with my youngest daughter’s second birthday approaching, I decided it was finally time to do something for myself. I liked the idea of 12WBT because it’s not a diet where the aim is to shed kilos as quickly as possible. Instead, it combines a tailored plan of sensible eating with regular exercise, which really is the key to good health and weight loss. I wanted to set a good example for my daughters too, so that they could see that exercising and keeping fit is just as important to your health as making sensible food choices.
One of the best parts of 12WBT were the recipes and menus that accompanied the program over its 12 weeks. Michelle’s weekly inspirational video messages also helped me focus and stay on track, especially when the kids cheekily tried to tempt me with their chocolate Easter eggs. Kids will do that!
I also had a training buddy, Babyology staffer Sally Jackson. I absolutely recommend doing the program with a friend if you can so that you can encourage and support each other, especially when the mid-afternoon sugar craving hits. I’m pleased to say that between the two of us, we managed to steer ourselves clear of the office biscuit barrel during Babyology staff meetings.
Now anyone who knows Sally knows that she looks pretty damn good, but for her it was the same post-baby challenge of getting back into shape and shedding those last kid-induced kilos. Sally was such an inspiration, getting up early to sweat it out before her kids woke. She’s kept the exercise up now the 12WBT round has finished and feels much fitter and healthier than before. She also lost five kilos – a nice bonus!
What about me? Well, I’m so thrilled to report that those wobbly bits are shrinking rather rapidly! I’m back to my pre-pregnancy habit of running marathons and have lost a very tidy four kilos. Not bad when you consider that I did a fair bit of business travel (cue way too many business lunches and dinners) and spent two weeks on a very relaxing holiday with my family in Fiji in the middle of things. I’m going to be honest and confess that I might have lost a little more weight if I’d been more disciplined about exercise and stuck to the plan more rigorously. But let’s face it, who can resist a tropical cocktail or two!
