There’s one thing wrong with Scandinavian design, and it’s this. Those damn Scandinavian nations are so very, very far away. Here in Australia, we’ve become used to falling in love with show-stopping pieces such as this exquisite child’s desk, only to have our hearts broken when hit with shipping costs. Well, not this time.
We’re happy to report there’s a little slice of Scandinavian style in WA, of all places. Square Peg, in Fremantle’s Blinco Street arts precinct, is awash with all sorts of stunning examples of Danish modern furniture, but we particularly love this Geos desk and Lills chair set that’s perfectly sized for preschoolers.
Crafted from bamboo by We Do Wood, this boutique Danish design firm holds true to their vision that good design should be sustainable and respectful of the environment. The company has a staunch motto to “do no harm” to the animal or plant life where its bamboo is grown, so pesticides and other nasties are banned.
We adore the minimalistic styling from designers Henry Thygesen and Sebastian Jorgensen. Apart from rather obvious good looks, the desk has a useful pull-out drawer for stashing paper, crayons and other drawing paraphernalia.
The set of a desk and two chairs is exclusive in Australia to Square Peg and costs $620. It comes in a choice of black, red or blue trims. Contact Square Peg to check exact shipping costs to your place. Then take a virtual stroll through more of our Scandinavian design finds.
