Watch as the Australian ‘baby whisperer’ gently turns a breech baby

This Sydney doctor has been dubbed the ‘baby whisperer’ for his incredible ability to turn breech babies in the womb. Watching him at work is truly amazing – and here’s video proof.

Californian Christy Rojas was living in Sydney in 2013 with her husband Manu and son Luca when, at 28 weeks pregnant with her second son, she was told the baby was in a breech position.

The 35-year-old told the Daily Mail Australia“Around 32 weeks I started to get more concerned because I really wanted a homebirth. I started various techniques to get him to turn on his own: acupuncture, chiro, moxa, inversions twice daily”.

When none of the techniques worked, she turned to Dr Andrew Bisits, the director of obstetrics at Sydney’s Royal Hospital for Women. She wanted to try External Cephalic Version (ECV) – which is when a baby is manually turned in the mother’s womb, using nothing but a doctor’s hands.

Christy was 37 weeks pregnant when she met with Dr Bisits for the procedure, and her husband filmed the amazing encounter. The doctor uses his hands to try and turn the baby, and a couple of attempts are unsuccessful. Then Christy has a little chat to her as yet unborn son, and that seems to do the trick. Watch here:

Christy says, “There were two attempts to turn him which you see in the video. Then on the third he asks me to talk to my baby and as soon as I do Matisse flips over. It was a huge relief.”

She describes her experience as gentle and easy. And three weeks later, she gave birth at the family’s home in Randwick, to a beautiful boy named Matisse. And the birth itself wasn’t without drama, with Christy’s husband lending a helping hand.

“Matisse actually arrived before my midwife did because my labour was so fast. My husband caught him and he was perfect,” she says.

Christy and Manu have since gone on to have a third son, Alex, pictured above with his two older brothers.
