Rainy days, rainy days and so much fun! My childhood memories of splashing in puddles and trudging through any mud I could find are filled with pure joy. Granted, being raised in a very rainy climate means I have plenty of memories of being cooped up in the house. But the occasions when it was warm enough to slip on my rainboots and go wild outside are the memories I want my daughter to have of rainy days.
Now, if I’d had these chic and groovy gumboots by Swedish company Tretorn when I was young, I wouldn’t have taken them off. I am a shoe snob through and through. My daughter has obviously inherited this trait and is even more obsessed with shoes and boots than I am. She’d be in gumboot heaven with the pink and red ‘Engla’ boot above. These gumboots are much improved from what I wore. They are fully lined with a soft and fuzzy fabric to keep little toes warm and they’re PVC-free, so no horrible toxic rubber smell will be wafting from these boots.
For a bit of background, Tretorn started in the late 19th century and is a well-established international company known for their high quality shoes and apparel for the outdoor minded. I admire their commitment to the environment which is central to the company. The designs are retro influenced (love the cars!) but retain the modern styling and manufacturing methods we want today.
The gumboots are priced at US$40 and come in European sizes 19-32. They aren’t yet available in Australia but you can order them direct from the Tretorn website and have them sent here with your preferred freight forwarder.
