I discovered Tortine cakes last Christmas when the lovely Paola made magnificent cupcakes and cakes for a pre-school get together. I have been wanting to have a cake designed by Paola ever since, so what better occasion than when my youngest turned one recently.
Tortine Boutique Cakes is located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, and customers can either pick up their order or have it delivered within the Sydney metropolitan area. You can choose between full size decorated cakes, cupcakes or stunning decorated cookies. Large cakes come in three flavours (chocolate, chocolate mud and delicious white chocolate mud) and if you decide to go for cupcakes, there’s also the option of gluten-free.
The process of designing our cake was a lot of fun – it was so special and really represented my little girl. Being a first birthday, I really had no idea what to base the theme of the cake around as my little one still doesn’t have a favourite colour or attachments to certain characters.
Paola sent me some ideas and pictures of cakes she’d created for other first birthdays (see above) and then I asked if we could have her favourite toy on the cake, Blabla Bubbles the Cat. I asked for some bunting, a balloon and her name. The results were amazing and my little girl loved her cake with her favourite little toy sitting on the top (I still have the sugar doll, though I’m not sure what to do with it or how to preserve it. I just can’t bring myself to throw it away!).
You can get in touch with Tortine Boutique Cakes directly to discuss your ideas and get an exact quote for your cake order, but as a general rule, individual cupcakes begin at $2.50 each, and individual decorated cookies at $3 each.
The pictures speak for themselves and I can highly recommend the results. Click over to Tortine Boutique Cakes and have a look at their whole gallery. Tortine Cakes are in Sydney.
